Eldon R. Meier, 81, of Tripoli, died Saturday, September 15, 2018, at his Tripoli home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Marilyn J Sargent officiating. Interment will follow at the Faith United Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18th, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
Eldon Roy, son of Leslie and Renetta Schweer Meier, was born May 11, 1937, in Bremer County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at what is now Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli. He received his education in the Frederika Schools. On May 19, 1957, he was united in marriage with Delores Bruch at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner. Eldon worked at many jobs during his life, Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo, tiling, drove a milk truck, farming, and owned and operated a saw mill, which he sold in 2005. He enjoyed antiques and going to sales, working on cars and anything that had a gasoline engine, and also enjoyed artwork and tractor pulls.
In addition to his wife, Delores of Tripoli, he is survived by two daughters, Janice (Darwyn) Peters of Waverly and Karen (Jayson) Hoppenworth of Tripoli; three grandchildren, Justin Hoppenworth and friend, Erika Plendl, Morgan (Kirk) Bremner, and Sara (Spencer) Cook; two great grandchildren, Jaxson and Ryder Hoppenworth; and one sister, Eunice Evers of Waterloo.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents.
